Darren Law Finishes 2nd at ALMS Season Opener at Sebring

Richmond, Virginia (March 20, 2008)

Darren Law, driver for Motorsport Technology Group of Richmond, Virginia took a hard-fought second place finish at the American Le Mans Series 2008 season opener at Sebring March 12-15. Law partnered with Australian Porsche Supercup pilot Alex Davison and 2008 season teammate Seth Neiman of San Francisco in the #44 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche GT3 RSR. The team’s sister Porsche won the GT2 class with an almost perfect finish in the twelve-hour endurance classic.

The Flying Lizard team made several changes for the 2008 season, running the new 08 GT3 RSR sporting new aerodynamics and enhanced suspension elements. Law started in 10th place, but success with the team’s race set up allowed him to move forward progressively during his stint, and the trio advanced to fourth place within the first few hours of the 12 hour event. By mid-race, the #44 was securely in second place, some three laps ahead of the third placed Ferrari entry. From that point, the group ran trouble-free to the end.

“We ran the new 2008 911 GTS RSR with many changes to the car, both aerodynamically and in suspension, to become more competitive with the Ferrari. I had a great race!,” Law said enthusiastically. “Overall we didn’t have too many issues. We ran clean and fast and finished a couple of laps ahead of the 3rd place Ferrari. The team really deserved this podium finish. The guys worked really hard and had some long nights all week. To put it on the podium made all worth it,” stated Law.

Motorsport Technology Group’s fellow driver Tommy Milner encountered challenges with speed during the Sebring race. His team of Joey Hand and Tom Sutherland qualified in the top ten and were up to 5th place within two hours. They held the position a third of the way through until encountering issues with a cracked differential case that cost 45 laps in repair. After that the car ran well until retired an hour from the finish with miss-fire problems.

“Our pace was definitely a lot better during the race than we had in practice, which is always typical when running against other Michelin cars,” said Milner.

Watch for both Darren Law and Tommy Milner when they compete at Lime Rock with Motorsport Technology Group on May 24th.
